Computer Graphics Education Research
This page introduces major education-related research papers on computer graphics, animation, character making, CG programming, geometric modeling, CAD education, and graphic science education. In university education, educational practice is as important as research itself, and it is important to develop, organize, and improve educational methods through continuous practice.
Based on computer graphics, I have conducted various educational practices for engineering, art, and media students. This page also introduces related software, tools, libraries, and teaching materials. Lecture materials are linked from the lecture pages.
Jimmy: NPR Educational System
Javaプログラミングによる絵画調画像生成教育用システム
Jimmy is an educational system for generating painterly images using Java programming. It was developed as a system for teaching non-photorealistic rendering through 2D image processing and programming exercises.

Algorithmic Design
数式がつくるかたち
“Shapes Created by Mathematical Expressions” was originally proposed and used as teaching material by Professor Kiyoe Fuchigami. I used this material as part of computer graphics education for engineering students. It was also used in basic exercises in the School of Media Science and later incorporated into several lectures and exercises.

Web-Based Training System for Advanced Computer Graphics Courses
Since the mid-1990s, we have developed Java-based teaching materials for computer graphics technology education. These materials were created using Java so that they could be published on the Internet, and they were used in various educational practices.
Professor Tomoyuki Nishita also developed many Java-based CG teaching materials and published them on the Web. Based on these activities, the CG-ARTS Association proposed the development of Web-based CG teaching materials, and we presented related research together with Professor Nishita and others. These achievements contributed to Professor Nishita receiving the 2001 IPSJ Excellent Educational Material Award.

Computer Graphics Curriculum
I have proposed various educational curricula and conducted lectures and exercises to improve computer graphics education. This includes computer graphics education based on both artwork production and programming, example-based programming for introductory CG production, and the relationship between graphic science education and CG education.

Geometric Modeling and CAD Curriculum
形状モデリング、CAD教育
Education in geometric modeling and CAD often focuses mainly on the use of tools, while insufficient attention is paid to how different shapes are constructed. To address this issue, we proposed a systematic approach to geometric modeling education and conducted trial educational practices. These outcomes were also applied to graphic science exercises at the College of Arts and Sciences, the University of Tokyo, and contributed to the development of CG and modeling education using commercial software.

Present Status of Graphic Science Education in Japan
We conducted a nationwide survey of the actual status of graphic science education among members of the Japan Society for Graphic Science and teachers involved in graphic science education. The results were presented at international conferences on geometry and graphics, Japan-China graphics education conferences, and meetings of the Japan Society for Graphic Science Education Research Group.
